Ingredients

  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Fuji, or Honeycrisp work best)
  • 12 oz (340 g) caramel candies or soft caramel squares
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk (optional, for smoother caramel)
  • 8 oz (225 g) chocolate (milk, dark, or semi-sweet)
  • Optional toppings: chopped nuts, sprinkles, crushed cookies, sea salt

Instructions

  • Prepare Apples : Wash apples thoroughly and dry completely. Any moisture will prevent caramel and chocolate from sticking. Insert wooden sticks into the top of each apple for easy dipping.
  • Melt Caramel : In a medium saucepan, combine caramel candies and 2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk. Heat over low heat, stirring constantly, until smooth and creamy.
  • Dip Apples in Caramel : Hold each apple by the stick and dip into the melted caramel, twisting to coat evenly. Let excess caramel drip back into the pan. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Allow caramel to set slightly (5–10 minutes).
  • Melt Chocolate : Melt chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 20-second intervals, stirring in between, or use a double boiler until smooth.
  • Coat or Drizzle Chocolate : Dip the caramel-coated apple into chocolate for a full coating or drizzle chocolate over the top for a decorative effect.
  • Add Toppings: Immediately sprinkle chopped nuts, sprinkles, or sea salt over the chocolate before it sets.
  • Cool Completely : Allow chocolate to set completely at room temperature or refrigerate briefly (about 10–15 minutes) to firm up.
  • Serve : Enjoy immediately or package for gifting.
