Ingredients
  

  • For the Hot Chocolate:
  • 2 cups milk (whole, 2%, or non-dairy alternative)
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar (or to taste)
  • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon (plus more for garnish)
  • ¼ tsp pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 oz semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped (optional for extra richness)
  • For Topping:
  • Mini marshmallows (a generous handful)
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  • Chocolate shavings or cocoa dust (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Heat the Milk : Pour 2 cups of milk into a small saucepan. Warm over medium heat until steaming, but do not let it boil.
  • Mix the Cocoa and Sugar : In a small bowl, mix cocoa powder, sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Whisk this mixture into the warm milk until no lumps remain.
  • Add Chocolate and Flavoring : Stir in the chopped chocolate (if using) until fully melted. Add vanilla extract and stir to combine. Taste and adjust sweetness.
  • Serve and Garnish : Pour the hot chocolate into mugs. with a generous handful of marshmallows. Optionally, add whipped cream, a sprinkle of cinnamon, or chocolate shavings.
