Ingredients
  

  • For the Pretzel Dough:
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F / 45°C)
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • For Boiling:
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • For Topping:
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

Instructions
 

  • Activate Yeast : In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Make Dough : In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Pour in yeast mixture and melted butter. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
  • Knead Dough : Knead on a floured surface for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • First Rise : Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Preheat Oven : Set oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Shape Pretzels : Punch down dough and divide into 8 pieces. Roll each piece into a rope and shape into a pretzel.
  • Boil Pretzels : In a large pot, bring water and baking soda to a boil. Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds, then transfer to prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake : Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown.
  • Add Topping : Brush warm pretzels with melted butter. Mix sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl and sprinkle generously over each pretzel.
  • Cool and Serve : Allow to cool slightly before enjoying warm.
