Ingredients

  • For the Fruit Filling:
  • 4 cups peeled, cored, and sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour (to thicken the filling)
  • For the Oatmeal Topping:
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
  • ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  • Preparing the Fruit Filling: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x9-inch baking dish. In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, cranberries, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, vanilla, and flour. Toss gently to coat. Spread the fruit mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  • Making the Oatmeal Topping: In a medium bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter or fingers until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in chopped nuts if using. Sprinkle topping evenly over fruit filling.
  • Baking: Bake in preheated oven for 40–45 minutes, until fruit is bubbly and topping is golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
