Ingredients

  • For the Shrimp:
  • 1 lb (450g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • For the Teriyaki Sauce:
  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp honey (or brown sugar)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water (for slurry)
  • For Garnish (Optional):
  • Sesame seeds
  • Sliced green onions

Instructions

  • Step 1: Prepare the Sauce : In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, garlic, ginger, and rice vinegar. Set aside.
  • Step 2: Cook the Shrimp : Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add shrimp, season lightly with salt and pepper, and cook for about 2 minutes per side until pink and opaque. Remove and set aside.
  • Step 3: Thicken the Sauce : In the same skillet, pour in the prepared sauce and bring to a simmer. Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook until the sauce becomes thick and glossy, about 1–2 minutes.
  • Step 4: Combine and Glaze : Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet. Toss well to coat each piece in the teriyaki glaze.
  • Step 5: Serve : Transfer to a serving plate, sprinkle sesame seeds and chopped green onions on top.
